With a payload of up to five helicopters or six Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles, the Lockheed C-5 Galaxy was no doubt, USAF’s largest and only strategic airlifter. An upgraded version of the previous C-5 model, the C-5M Super Galaxy was fitted with new engines and advanced avionics that were designed to last beyond 2040. Delivery of the refitted units to the USAF began in December 2008; full production of the C-5M Super Galaxy began in the summer of 2009 and on September 13 of that same year, the aircraft was able to set 41 new records, which are now awaiting formal recognition after the flight data was submitted to the National Aeronautic Association. Thanks to its unmatched reliability in terms of flight range and amount of cargo haul, the Super Galaxy airplane is still currently in service with the United States Air Force.
