  • The snow-covered Pennines near Tebay in Westmorland provide a suitably grand setting for one of the most powerful and spectacular of Britain's express steam locomotives, the London Midland and Scottish Railway 'Coronation' Class Pacific number 6233 'Duchess of Sutherland'.

This engine is portrayed during the winter of 1946, as it storms around the curve at Greenholme on the steep gradient up to Shap summit with a heavily loaded express from London bound for Glasgow.

In its crimson livery, 'Duchess of Sutherland' embodied the finest traditions of the L.M.S. during its twilight years before nationalisation.
