A Curtiss P-40 of the legendary "Flying Tigers” has just downed a Japanese Nakajima Ki-43 “Oscar” fighter. Commanded by Claire Chennault, the "Flying Tigers” consisted mostly of Americans and was an all volunteer group (AVG), fighting the Japanese for the Chinese Air Force at the outbreak of the war in the Pacific. While the P-40 was inferior to the nimble Japanese “Zero” fighters in several ways, the "Flying Tigers” superior dog-fighting tactics and flying skills usually proved victorious.
