Bob Hall began flying in Kodiak in 1947, ferrying workers to canneries scattered around the island in a Republic SeaBee. He later founded Kodiak Airways and began operating Grumman Widgeons. One of his mechanics was Benny Benson, the original designer of the Alaska flag. Benny painted the flag on the nose of N58847, the flagship of the fleet, which was also named after Bob’s wife, Helen.
