160th SOAR "Night Stalker" Chinooks are flown in the heavy assault role which includes the insertion and extraction of Special Operations Forces. The MH-47E, with more powerful engines than it's predecessor, enhanced management software, improved fuel capacity and more advanced defensive avionics, is ideal for this mission. The E model helicopters have been in service with the 160th SOAR since 1993.
